Auckland, Waiheke Island & the Waitakeres
New Zealand's largest city, Auckland is surrounded by natural treasures.
Waiheke Island is a haven of beautiful vineyards, olive groves and beaches, all just a 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. The white sandy beaches at Oneroa, Palm Beach and Onetangi slope gently down into the Hauraki Gulf and are perfect for swimming, kayaking, or having a picnic.
The Waitakere Ranges region is rich in native flora and fauna, and home to the giants of the forest, the mighty kauri tree. Bordering the ranges are the west coast’s spectacular black-sand beaches, where you’ll find some of Auckland’s most popular surf spots, great swimming, dramatic landscapes – even a huge clifftop gannet colony.
